Where can I go cross country skiing?

You can virtually cross country ski anywhere with snow, but for a great experience visit a professional nordic center. These x-c ski areas offer well-groomed trails ranging from 10-150 km in length! The terrain ranges from flat to hilly and the areas are spread throughout North America. Professional instruction for all abilities and ages is available. The fun includes weekend events such as races and gourmet food tours, and they offer the best in rental ski equipment. For more information on trail conditions at these professional x-c ski areas, contact Cross Country Ski Areas Association at www.xcski.org. In addition to groomed ski centers, you can go "ski touring" (classical or "kick and glide" technique) on your local golf course, county, town, or state park trails, or even your own "back forty." Classical skiing also opens up Forest Service and BLM roads, backcountry trails, and terrain close to alpine ski areas. It's best to skate ski on the firmly packed trails of a nordic center, snowmobile trail, or even a couple of inches of snow on a well-frozen lake.
